Kayaking From the Poxono Boat Access to the Kittatinny Visitors Center
Paddling trips in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area can range from trips of a few hours to 2 days. But one very easy paddling trip is the 2-3 hour 8 mile paddle from the Poxono Boat Access, located on Old Mine Road, to the Kittatinny Visitors Center on the New Jersey side.
The Poxono Boat Access has a lot of boating and fishing activity. But if you’re into wildlife photography you’ll encounter Heron and Bald Eagles, and if you take the time to paddle upstream of the access and explorer the small coves you’ll might experience muskrat and beaver slapping their tails within a few feet of your boat. This boat access is also a great fishing spot.
While paddling to the Kittatinny Visitors Center you’ll encounter mostly flatwater and possibly a slight headwind which may require some paddling proceed ahead. This is a very active tourism section of the Delaware River so you’ll likely encounter other paddlers and rafters.
If water levels are high enough be sure to explore the small channels on the river right and between the islands where you’ll discover small riffles and nice scenery. These channels also provide escape from the numerous touring rafters.
